US Airport Capacity Reductions: What You Need to Know
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced a 10% capacity reduction at 40 major US airports beginning Friday morning due to the looming government shutdown.
The list of impacted airports is not final and is still subject to change, as the FAA has not issued a final order formally requiring airlines to cut their capacity.
What to Expect:
The FAA has not released the full list of affected airports, but early reports indicate the following hubs are included:
- Flight delays of 2-3 hours at some major airports.
- Longer TSA security lines (potentially 3+ hours at peak times).
- Possible flight cancellations as airlines proactively adjust schedules.
Our Recommendations:
- Arrive at the airport at least 3 hours early for domestic flights, 4 hours for international.
- Check your flight status frequently before departing for the airport.
