Do you need a U.S. visa?

Updated: 26 September 2025

What paperwork do you and your colleagues need to visit the United States?

Depending on where a passport is issued, some can apply for the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) for short visits, while others will require a visa and potentially a new Visa Integrity Fee.

What is the U.S. ESTA?

ESTA stands for Electronic System for Travel Authorization

Who can apply: Anyone with a passport from a country in the Visa Waiver Program must obtain an ESTA to visit the U.S. for business or tourism for up to 90 days within a 12-month period. This applies to travellers from the UK as well as most of the European Union and Ireland.

Cost: £29.41 / US$40 from 30 September 2025

What is the U.S. Visa Integrity Fee?

On top of paying for a visa, there is now an additional Visa Integrity Fee. The fee might be refundable if travellers comply with all visa requirements, but currently there’s no refund process in place.

Who can apply: Anyone travelling to the U.S from countries not listed in the Visa Waiver Program must apply for a visa.

Cost: Visa costs vary, and Integrity Fee of at least £183 / US$250 (may be refundable)
